Melissa McCarthy responded to Barbra Streisand’s “Ozempic Comment”

Barbra Streisand and Melissa McCarthy found themselves at the centre of a social media storm after Streisand left a comment on McCarthy’s Instagram post. Her innocent comment of praising her co-star sparked a flood of reactions from fans and followers. Now the two have reacted to the unexpected controversy which has left fans angry.

Melissa McCarthy posted a happy video to social media with the caption ‘Only for Barbara fan clubs’, in which she responded to Barbara’s since-deleted Instagram comment. In the video, Melissa can be seen holding a copy of the magazine titled Barbra: Celebrating an Icon, which features Streisand’s face on the cover.

Controversy of  Barbra Streisand and Melissa McCarthy

The controversy began when Melissa McCarthy shared photos of herself with choreographer Adam Shankman at Center Theater Group’s annual gala. However, Streisand’s comment under the post raised eyebrows, as she apparently asked McCarthy if she used the type 2 diabetes drug Ozempic to achieve her slimmed-down appearance.

Streisand quickly deleted the comment, but not before it attracted the attention of McCarthy’s followers, who expressed a range of reactions from criticism to amusement.

In recent years, Ozempic, a prescription diabetes drug, has grown in popularity, including in Hollywood, to help people slim down. While McCarthy has spoken openly about her health journey in the past, she has not spoken publicly about her use of Ozempic or other medications for weight loss. Barbra Streisand clarifies her Ozempic comment

In response to the backlash, Streisand took to her Instagram Story to clarify her intentions, saying that she simply wanted to appreciate McCarthy’snew look and forget the public glare of social media. “I just wanted to compliment her. I forgot the world was reading,”

Streisand and McCarthy previously worked together in 2016 for the singer’s Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway album, for which they performed a duet of “Anything You Can Do”.

Last year McCarthy told Entertainment Weekly that Streisand is “really funny” and recalled what impressed her about the star when they first met.

McCarthy recalled, “I think when she opened the door she had leggings on and lunch meat in her hand. And I thought none of this is what I expected.” She admitted that she was initially “very nervous” to meet Streisand, but, “She is who she is.”

“And also,” added McCarthy, “when someone who you think you should be curtseying to keeps eating lunch meat, it really kind of levels the playing field. It was really charming. I was like, ‘You’re really pounding lunch meat.’ She’s like, ‘Yeah.’ “
