Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar hoisted the tricolor on the new Parliament House
Vice President of India and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar hoisted the national flag at the new Parliament House today, a day ahead of the special session of Parliament. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, Ministers of State for Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghawal and V Muraleedharan and leaders of political parties in both Houses were present at the ceremony, among others.
Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, who is in Hyderabad for a two-day meeting of the newly formed Congress Working Committee, was not present during the flag hoisting ceremony. The Congress President on Saturday wrote a letter to Rajya Sabha General Secretary Pramod Chandra Mody expressing disappointment over the late invitation to the function.
“Dear PC Mody ji, I am writing this letter with disappointment that I have received your invitation for the flag hoisting ceremony at the new Parliament House tomorrow on 15th September very late in the night.”
“Since the programs were decided long in advance. I am currently in Hyderabad for meetings. Since I will be returning to Delhi late on September 17, it will not be possible for me to attend the function tomorrow morning,” Kharge said in his letter.
All party meeting
A meeting of parliamentary leaders of all political parties is to be held today at 4.30 pm ahead of the five-day special session of Parliament from September 18 to 22.
“Ahead of the parliamentary session on the 18th of this month, a meeting of leaders of all parties has been called at 4:30 pm on the 17th,” minister Pralhad Joshi said in a social media post earlier this week.
He said, “For this, invitations were sent to the interested leaders by email. The letter will be followed.”
Agenda of extraordinary session of Parliament
After days of speculation over the agenda of the special session called by the government, a parliamentary bulletin said both houses will discuss the 75-year journey of Parliament on the first day. The provisional list of matters for the Parliament session includes the Bill for consideration and approval of the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners.
