Timothee Chalamet will star in a strange biopic about Ping Pong the legend ‘Marty Supreme’

Timothee Chalamet is already preparing for his next project, which will be an A24 film by Josh Safdie. Titled Marty Supreme, a sports biographical film that revolves around the life of professional ping pong player Marty Reisman.

Timothee Chalamet is in final talks to play Reisman, who started as a ping pong hustler in the 1940s before winning multiple international competitions, opening for the Harlem Globetrotters and writing a best-selling autobiography, The Confessions of America’s Greatest Table Tennis Champion and Hustler. The film will be directed by Josh Safdie, who recently went solo after years of collaboration with his brother Benny Safdie. It will be Josh’s first film since the Netflix hit Uncut Gems, and his first solo directorial effort since his 2008 debut, The Pleasure of Being Robbed.

Marty Reisman who was a renowned pig pong player with numerous accolades, passed away in 2012. He started out as a hustler in Manhattan, playing for bets and prize money, and eventually became an elite title holder in the sport.

From 1946 to 2002, he won 22 major table tennis titles and five bronze medals at the World Table Tennis Championships. At the age of 67, he competed in the US National Hardbat Championships and created the record of being the oldest person to win an open national competition in a racquet sport. He was known as the “table tennis wizard” and even opened the Harlem Globetrotters with his ping-pong comedy routine. Timothee Chalamet is shooting for “A Complete Unknown” where he will play the role of legendary singer and songwriter Bob Dylan. Additional casting announced so far includes Elle Fanning, Edward Norton and Monica Barbaro, among others.

The film will also show his relationship with Sylvie Russo and how she helped him reshape music.
