Sydney Sweeney to play the role of Legendary Women Boxer Christy Martin in the upcoming Biopic
Sydney Sweeney, returning from hit rom-com Anyone But You and horror movie Immaculate, is switching gears once again as she is set to play pioneering boxer Christy Martin in a new biopic that could be a knockout. Is.
Animal Kingdom’s David Michôd will direct the film and will tell the tumultuous story of Martin, who amassed a record of 49 wins and 7 losses during his 23-year career and was nearly stabbed to death. Her husband in 2010.

Michôd explained the story of the script: “The film is about Christy, a young lesbian woman in small-town Virginia in the 1990s. She came from a relatively conservative family and was not allowed to be herself, so she used boxing as a medium to express herself and her anger. She had to make some dangerous and fundamental compromises in her life, the most important of which was marrying a perilous man.

Since her breakout role in HBO’s Euphoria in 2019, Sweeney has been one of the busiest actors in the business. Last year, she starred in the hit rom-com Anyone But You.

Americana, a crime thriller in which she stars alongside Paul Walter Hauser and Halsey, premiered at SXSW last year and is expected to get a wide release this year as well. She is set to star alongside Julianne Moore in the Apple TV+ thriller Echo Valley and Ron Howard’s survival thriller Eden alongside Ana de Armas, Jude Law and Vanessa Kirby. She has also been cast to play space-faring heroine Barbarella in a new film she will produce.
