Shakira Kids thinks that the 2023 Barbie Movie is “Scandalous”
Famous music icon Shakira recently made an appearance on the cover of Allure magazine and shared her candid thoughts on the blockbuster film Barbie directed by Greta Gerwig. The film made a splash in 2023, grossing $1.4 billion (roughly Rs. 117,000,000,000) worldwide and earning eight Oscar nominations including acting awards for Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera.
In a recent interview with the magazine, Shakira revealed that both of her sons hated the film Barbie and thought it was “scandalous”. She partially agreed with their sentiment, stressing the importance of empowering women in pop culture without diminishing the role or identity of men.
The Colombian pop singer shared her less-than-glowing opinion on Greta Gerwig’s acclaimed film, which starred Margot Robbie in the title role. She said that her sons hated it and They felt it was scandalous, referring to sons Milan, 11, and Sasha, 9, whom she shares with her ex-boyfriend Gerard Piqué. “And I agree to some extent.”
She added that she wants her sons to feel powerful while respecting women. She then moves to give an example of pop culture when it tries to empower, protect, and provide for women without taking away from men their ability to be men. She believes in giving women all the tools and confidence that they can do all this without losing their essence, without losing our femininity,” she said.
Shakira continued her thoughts by saying, “I think men have a purpose in society and women also have another purpose. We complement each other and this complementarity should not end.”
“Just because a woman can do it all doesn’t mean she should?” Journalist Patricia Alfonso Tortolani asked in response, Shakira replied, why share the load with people who are deserving, who must carry it as well?”
