A railway guard kills four people on a moving train after firing 12 rounds from an assault rifle.
Mumbai: An official reported that a Railway Protection Force (RPF) member shot dead four individuals, including an Assistant Sub-Inspector, on board a moving train near the Palghar railway station in Maharashtra on Monday morning. He was subsequently apprehended after attempting to flee.
“Four people were killed, including the ASI, in a shooting inside the Jaipur-Mumbai Central Superfast Express (12956).” The accused has been taken into custody. “The DCP North GRP has been notified,” the Railway Protection Force said.
According to officials, the accused, RPF Constable Chetan Singh, opened fire with his official automatic weapon at five a.m., killing another RPF comrade, his escort duty in charge ASI Tikaram Meena, and three passengers aboard the train on its route to Mumbai from Jaipur. He fired 12 shots.
Tikaram Meena is from Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan, while Chetan Singh is from Hathras in Uttar Pradesh. They were accompanied by two other RPF jawans, who indicated the police were recording their testimony.
Chetan Singh had a short fuse, according to a senior police official.Praveen Sinha, Inspector General of RPF (Western Railway), told the reporters, “He had a short fuse, he was quite hot-headed.” There was no argument. He simply lost his cool and shot his senior, then fired at anybody he saw.”
“From his ARM Rifle, Constable Chetan Singh fired on Party Incharge ASI Tikaram Meena and one unknown passenger in Coach No B 5, and then fired on two other unknown passengers in Coach No S 6 and the Pantry car attached to the train.” The train arrived at Borivali about 6:18 p.m., and four dead corpses were recovered by GRP and RPF officials and crew. The passengers have not yet been recognized.
“Constable Chetan has been apprehended, and his ARM has been recovered,” the RPF stated in a statement.
Western Railways has announced a high-level investigation. According to them, the accused was sent to Lower Parel.According to officials, after shooting his superior, the policeman moved to another bogie and shot dead three people.
