Priscilla Presley Pays Tribute to Elvis Presley on Anniversary of His Death
Priscilla Presley just remembered her late husband, Elvis Presley, on the anniversary of his death.
On Friday, August 16, the actress took to her official Instagram account to post a brief but meaningful tribute to the Burning Love singer.
“47 years old and not a day goes by that I don’t think of you,” Priscilla, 79, wrote in the caption of the clip along with a rose emoji.
The video itself featured a snapshot of a young Elvis, who gradually zoomed out and was soundtracked by an instrumental version of “Always on My Mind,” a ballad the musician covered in 1972. At the end of the clip, a black screen displayed the text: “Elvis Aaron Presley, January 8, 1935 – August 16, 1977.”
Priscilla’s brief tribute comes just three days after she also honoured Elvis Presley’s mother, Gladys, who died on August 14, 1958. “She meant the world to him,” Priscilla wrote alongside another video.
How old was Elvis when he met Priscilla?
In 1959 During his military service, Elvis Presley was stationed in West Germany, where he served as a soldier instead of joining the entertainment division of the Special Services, Presley met Priscilla Beaulieu, who was 14 at the time (Presley was 24) at a party at his home in Bad Nauheim, Germany. They began a romantic relationship that continued after Presley returned to the United States in 1960.
When he resumed his music career, those who considered him a talentless commercial propaganda man expected him to fade away. Instead, he continued to have hits from shelved recordings just before he entered the military. Also read – Taylor Swift and Her ‘BFF’ Ed Sheeran Surprise Fans on Eras Tour in London
On May 1, 1967, in an intimate wedding before just 14 guests, musical sensation Elvis Presley married non-celebrity Priscilla Beaulieu in an eight-minute civil ceremony in a private suite at the famed Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas. The couple wants to keep the wedding private, so they avoid reporters and travel by private plane from Palm Springs in the wee hours of the morning to arrive in Las Vegas at 4 a.m.
Soon after, Priscilla learned she was pregnant. She was upset about such an early pregnancy, certain it would destroy the closeness she had finally found with Elvis. She had asked him earlier if she could take birth control pills, but Elvis had insisted they were not yet perfected. She considered having an abortion and had even discussed it with Elvis, but they both decided they could not live with themselves if they did. Lisa Marie, Their only child, was born on February 1, 1968, exactly nine months after their wedding.
Why did Elvis and Priscilla split up?
According to “Elvis and Me,” written by Priscilla, mentions that along with frequently alleged infidelities on Elvis’ part, as well as an affair by Priscilla herself with karate instructor Mike Stone, the couple eventually split up. By 1972, they had decided to part ways. “I didn’t divorce him because I didn’t love him; he was the love of my life, really,” Priscilla told British talk show Loose Women. “If anything, I left because I needed to find out what the world was like.”
When did Elvis Presley die?
On August 16, 1977, Elvis Presley died of a heart attack. According to the New York Times report “preliminary autopsy findings” indicated the cause of his death was “an irregular and ineffective heartbeat,” or “cardiac arrhythmia,” or according to Dr. Jerry Francisco, the Shelby County coroner who conducted a two-hour examination of the body.
Initially, the coroner was unable to discover the cause of the arrhythmia, prompting speculation that the singer may have died as a result of a drug overdose based on published reports that 10 prescription drugs were found in his body.
However, that October, The New York Times confirmed that drugs were ruled out as a cause of Elvis’s passing, “although there were prescription drugs in his body at the time of his death,” the outlet noted, with a statement released by Dr Francisco. “The cause of death has been attributed to hypertensive heart disease, with coronary artery disease as a contributing factor,” his report reads.
Prior to his death, Elvis Presley had to deal with several health problems and was hospitalized four times in five years for treatment of high blood pressure and an enlarged or impacted colon. He also suffered from mild diabetes and a liver problem.
