Perry Kurtz, comedian and America’s Got Talent contestant has passed away at the age of 73

Perry Kurtz, known to many in Los Angeles for his work as a comedian, sadly passed away at 73. A grey Honda Civic struck the comedian. It happened around 11:30 p.m., and emergency responders pronounced Kurtz dead at the scene.

According to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s records, Kurtz died on Thursday. Local media outlets, including Fox 11 and KTLA, reported that an 18-year-old suspect was arrested on suspicion of a felony hit-and-run that killed Kurtz in Tarzana, a neighbourhood in Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley.

Los Angeles Police Department officials told media that the collision occurred after 11 p.m. on Thursday, while Kurtz was crossing the street. The comedian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect had escaped before police officers arrived but was later arrested at his home early on the morning of August 16 by authorities, who identified him as 18-year-old Nathon Jaimes.

He was charged with felony hit-and-run resulting in death. Police found the abandoned vehicle involved in that crash near where it occurred. Kurtz’s friend expresses sadness over his death

His longtime friend Dante Rusciolelli expressed his deep sadness to People

While referring to Perry Kurtz as an important part of the comedy world with whom they had spent decades together. He told the outlet, “Perry wasn’t just a client, he’s been my friend since 1987. He’s been a staple in the L.A. comedy community for decades and will be missed.” Rusciolelli also sent his condolences to family members.

Perry Kurtz was active on social media weeks before his death, posting clips of him singing at Los Angeles-area bars on YouTube. He advertised his performances as “comedy and music for all ages.” On his social media accounts, he described himself as a “humour educator,” stand-up comedian, freestyle rapper and improvisational vocalist. Perry Kurtz auditioned for Season 8 of “America’s Got Talent.” He didn’t make it to the next round after rapping about judges Heidi Klum, Howard Stern and Mel B. The comedian also made appearances on “The Late Show with James Corden” and “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.”
