The series is loosely based on the real-life experiences of Erin Foster. The series is produced for Netflix by 20th Television in association with Steven Levitan Productions.

Nobody Wants This centres on the unlikely relationship between an outspoken, agnostic woman, Joanne (Golden Globe nominee Kristen Bell), and an unconventional rabbi, Noah (SAG nominee Adam Brody). From the moment they meet at a friend’s dinner party, they can both tell something is going on between them. But it’s also possible that between them are their different perspectives on life, all the modern obstacles to love, and their sometimes well-meaning, sometimes sabotaging families.
According to screenwriter Erin Foster, this show is based on the one good decision she made: falling in love with a nice Jewish boy. She added that she realized that being happy is much harder than being miserable, there’s nothing to complain about. According to an article published on Tudum, Erin Foster told the outlet that finding the right person for the series was a difficult job, as the characters were inspired by herself, but when Kristen Bell accepted the role, Foster knew Bell was the best person who could play the character of Joanne. She appreciates Adam Brody for taking on the role of Noah, who had played Seth Cohen in THE O.C.

*Stephanie Faracy as Lynn: Joanne and Morgan’s recently divorced mother. Lynn has a New Age propensity for the mystical.
*Tovah Feldshuh as Bina: Noah’s cold and distant mother. Family is everything to Bina.
*Emily Arlook as Rebecca: Noah’s “perfect” Jewish girlfriend. She has done “everything right” to get Noah to propose to her.
