New Lord Of The Rings Movie confirmed by Warner Bros.
On Warner Bros. Discovery’s first-quarter earnings conference call on Thursday, CEO David Zaslav said the company is “right now in the early stages of script development” for the new Lord of the Rings films, adding that they are “considering the release Hopefully in 2026” and “Discovering the stories yet to be told.”
The first of Warner’s two new Lord of the Rings films – the working title Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum – will be directed by Andy Serkis (Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle), with Fran Walsh and Philip Boyens along with Phoebe Gittins and Artie Papageorgiou (Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim) decided to write the script.
David Zaslav said, “It’s an honour and a privilege to travel back to Middle-earth with our good friend and collaborator, Andy Serkis, who has unfinished business with that stinker – Gollum!” Jackson, Boynes and Walsh said in a statement. “As lifelong fans of Professor Tolkien’s vast mythology, we are proud to be working with [WBD film chief] Mike De Luca, Pam Abdy, and the entire team at Warner Bros. on another epic adventure!” Also read – Tim Allen’s ‘Shifting Gears joins Daryl Mitchell and Froy Gutierrez

Warner was the first to say that it was in development after the new LOTR movies about a year ago. The rights holder was making a deal with Embracer Group AB to develop new films based on Tolkien’s book series.
“For more than two decades, movie audiences have loved the Lord of the Rings film trilogy as Fran, Peter and Philippa have shown up to protect the legacy of Tolkien’s works and ensure audiences can enjoy it. With Andy coming on board to direct Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum (working title), we continue a significant commitment to excellence that is a true reflection of how we all want to move forward.”
