Moana 2 will be Hitting the Theatre soon Voice by Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson
Moana 2 is about to hit theatres, and now we have the first trailer for the sequel to this beloved family film.
The animated follow-up film to 2016’s Moana, which was originally developed as a TV series, once again stars Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson providing the voices of Moana and Maui.
A new adventure
The teaser doesn’t reveal much about the plot, but does show Moana setting out for another adventure in the ocean after discovering a calling from her ancestors to “go to new skies and reunite her people across the sea.” The new footage shows off the sequel’s spectacular water animation, including a stunning shot of Moana swimming in front of a whale shark.
Moana’s rooster Hihi and pig Pua are both back in the trailer. But this time, Pua appears to accompany Moana on the journey, as fans questioned the decision to keep the pet behind in the original film despite appearing prominently on the poster. At the end of the teaser, Johnson’s Maui triumphantly arrives on Moana’s boat — and, in a meta-reference to the first film’s plot, asks, “Why didn’t you bring the pig last time?”

Will there still be a live-action ‘Moana’?
The live-action “Moana” was announced in 2023 ahead of the animated film’s sequel. In the live-action rendition, Johnson is returning as Maui, although Cravalho will not play the title character. No casting has been announced for Moana in the remake.
On May 25, Johnson shared a video of himself recording the song “You’re Welcome” for the “Moana” remake and revealed that production would begin in the fall. The film is scheduled to be released in July 2026.
In the original film, Moana leaves her home, the island of Motunui, and embarks on an adventure across the ocean with the help of the shapeshifting god Maui. The film was a hit for Disney in 2016, grossing $687 million worldwide. It received two Oscar nominations.
When will ‘Moana 2’ be released?
“Moana 2” is scheduled to hit theatres on Nov. 27, just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday. The original “Moana” was also released over Thanksgiving weekend.
