Kevin Costner’s ‘Horizon: An American Saga’ Sequel Canceled
The sequel to “Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1,” currently in theatres, part 2 was scheduled to be released in theatres on Aug. 16, but a spokesperson for production company New Line Cinema confirmed Wednesday to The New York Times and The Associated Press.
“Territory Pictures and New Line Cinema have decided not to release ‘Horizon: Chapter 2’ on August 16 to give audiences a greater opportunity to discover the first ‘Horizon’ instalment in the coming weeks,” a New Line Cinema spokesperson said.
“Horizon: An American Saga” debuted in theatres on June 28 and is distributed by Warner Bros., the first chapter of the film, which cost $100 million, grossed $11 million in its first weekend and has generated only 22.6 million dollars in total. Kevin Costner planned the saga, about the colonization of the West after the Civil War, to consist of four chapters and tickets for the first two chapters went on sale at the same time. Those who bought tickets to the second “Horizon” movie could receive a refund.
Synopsis
The project is set in the American West during the Civil War years, from 1861 to 1865.
The story promises to chronicle American expansion from the West in an all-encompassing story of how the United States came to spread from ocean to ocean.
“In the grand tradition of Warner Bros. Pictures’ iconic westerns, ‘Horizon: An American Saga’ explores the appeal of the Old West and how it was won (and lost) through the blood, sweat and tears of many. ” statement Synopsis of Warner Bros. Where can we see “Horizon: An American Saga”?
“Chapter 1” will be available via prime video on demand starting Tuesday, a New Line Cinema spokesperson told the Times and AP. It will also be released on Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max streaming service, although no date has been set for that. It is unclear when or how the second chapter will be released.
Statement from producer Kevin Costner
Kevin Costner, who invested $38 million of his own money in the project and left his lead role in the hit TV show “Yellowstone” because of scheduling conflicts over “Horizon,” declined to comment. He began filming the third episode in May.
“Kevin made this movie for people who love movies and wanted to go on a journey,” Territory Pictures, Kevin Costner’s production company, said in a statement. “The support we have received from moviegoers and theatre owners, as they experience the first chapter of this saga, only serves to reinforce our confidence in them and the films we have made, and we thank them for joining us. “We appreciate the opportunity to expand that window, as we know it will only serve to enhance the experience of watching ‘Horizon 2.'”
Costner believes his film will resonate with Americans
Chapter 2 also cost approximately $100 million to make. Costner’s team indicated last week that he intends to resume filming Chapter 3 in August.
Kevin Costner is known for his confidence, but he still surprised Hollywood when he announced that he would direct for the first time in decades and make four Horizon films that would chronicle the great migration to the West during the Civil War era.
Costner believed his film would strike a chord in America’s heart, much like Yellowstone, and while it did better in the mountain regions, Midwestern states, the South and the South Central, it has so far failed to galvanize his fans and Yellowstone Spectators to the desired extent, and in particular Yellowstone fans who are between 18 and 44 years old. The film, as expected, leans noticeably toward adulthood, with most viewers being over 45 years old.
The marketing campaign designed by Warner Bros. focused heavily on Kevin Costner, who toured the country and premiered the film at the Cannes Film Festival.
For now, it is unknown when Horizon: Chapter 2 will return to the theatrical calendar. So we will have to wait until an announcement is made.
