New Rules Set By SAG-AFTRA

The news of the rule came when the intimacy coordinator of the film ‘Miller’s Girl recently gave an interview to the Daily Mail about the film. Directed by Jed Bartlett, the film depicts the relationship between an 18-year-old student, played by Ortega, and his older teacher, played by Martin Freeman. At one point, it features an intimate scene between the two actors after Ortega’s character writes a graphic short story about a sexual teacher-student encounter.

After the scene was criticized due to the 31-year age difference between 21-year-old Ortega and 52-year-old Freeman, intimacy coordinator Christina Arjona told the Daily Mail that Jenna Ortega Sex scene was done after confirming that Ortega was comfortable with it.

SAG-AFTRA’s latest guidelines state that “It is unacceptable to make public statements about the beliefs of an actor assigned to a scene task or intimacy coordinator without the artist’s consent.” Intimacy Coordinators who fail to follow these rules may be removed from SAG-AFTRA’s registry.

In 2020 SAG-AFTRA released recommended standards and protocols for intimacy coordinators. “The presentations will help normalize and encourage the use of intimacy coordinators, thereby ensuring the safety of SAG-AFTRA members while working,” said Gabrielle Carteris, former president of SAG-AFTRA.
