Jay Z pointed out the recording academy’s snubs of Black artists
Jay Z will headline the Grammys 2024. During a speech at the Grammys on Sunday, Jay-Z criticized the awards ceremony, which he described as neglecting and inconsistencies in honoring black artists, and pointed out that his wife, Beyoncé, won the Most Grammys but she never won Album of the Year.
“Even by your metrics, it doesn’t work,” he said.
He added, “We want you to get it right – at least get it close to right.”
Jay-Z also mentioned the boycott of the 1989 Grammys by Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff because the rap category was not broadcast at the time. He said he boycotted the show when DMX released two No. 1 albums but was not nominated. Also read – Tracy Chapman Made a Surprise entry at Grammy Awards 2024
“Some of you may be robbed,” he said, “some of you are not in this category.”
He also acknowledged that the process of presenting the Grammy Awards is subjective. “It’s music and it’s based on opinion,” he said.
