Jada Pinkett Smith said she is grateful for the Oscars Slap
Despite the stress caused by 2022’s infamous Oscars slap, Jada Pinkett Smith says she’s grateful for it.
“Now I call it the ‘holy slap’ because so many positive things came after it,” she told the Daily Mail.
She says the moment when her husband, actor Will Smith, came on the Academy Awards stage and slapped Chris Rock after he joked about her was an eye-opener for her.
“That moment when the shit hits the fan is when you see where you really are,” she said.
“After so many years of trying to figure out if I would leave Will, that slap made me realize I would never leave him. Who knows where our relationship would have been if that hadn’t happened?”
The couple has been separated since 2016
The couple lives separately and has announced that they have been de facto separated since 2016.
Pinkett Smith made the revelation in her new memoir, Worthy, telling US TV host Hoda Kotb that the couple had not previously gone public with their split because they “were not ready yet.”
“We are still trying to figure out between the two of us how to be partners, she said in a clip from his upcoming NBC News primetime special.
“How do we present this to people?” She said this to Kotb. “We didn’t realize it.”
However, they also confirmed on Drew Barrymore’s show that they will “always be together.”.
Pinkett Smith, 52, and Smith, 55, have been married since 1997.
Jada Pinkett Smith said that although they live in separate homes, they have not legally divorced, and the actress has said that she has no plans to do so.
