Srinagar: There has been a spurt in infiltration attempts from across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir as 12 heavily armed terrorists have been killed after three infiltration attempts by terrorists were foiled in eight days.
The increase in infiltration attempts started in May and continued in June as well. There have been five infiltration attempts along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir during this month. Of the five infiltration attempts, three took place in Kashmir (two in Machil and the other in Keran sector) and two in the border district of Poonch in Jammu region.
Troops foiled these five infiltration attempts and killed 14 terrorists – 11 in Kashmir and 3 in Poonch.
Troops recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition including assault rifles, pistols, IEDs and narcotics from the possession of the slain terrorists. There were also five infiltration attempts by terrorists in May. Of these five infiltration attempts, two took place in Kashmir and three in Rajouri and Poonch districts of Jammu region.
Seven terrorists were killed in these five infiltration attempts. A security official said that due to the current political and economic crisis in the neighboring country, the Pakistan Army is trying to push terrorists into Kashmir to keep the militancy hotbed in order to divert attention from internal strife.
He said security personnel deployed along the LoC and the International Border (IB) are on highest alert to foil any infiltration bid by terrorists and to give a befitting reply to cross-border ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops.
In view of the growing threat of infiltration attempts by terrorists, the counter-infiltration grid components are being strengthened to foil every infiltration attempt by terrorists from across the Line of Control.
“The components of the Anti-Infiltration Grid are being regularly reviewed and strengthened as per requirement by adding more security components to detect and thwart infiltration attempts at the borders,” he said.
Human and technical intelligence is also playing an important role in thwarting infiltration attempts and thwarting Pakistan’s nefarious designs.
