Game of Thrones actor Ian Gelder died at 74

British actor Ian Gelder is no more. The actor best known for playing Kevan Lannister in HBO’s hit series Game of Thrones has died due to complications of bile duct cancer. He was 74 at the time of her death, following which her husband Ben Daniels paid tribute to him on social media.

Ben Daniels, born on 10 June 1954, is an actor who started his career with stage plays. His television series credits include The Virgin Queen, Cutting It, The Paradise and House of Cards, Law & Order: UK, as well as The Exorcist.

His versatility in acting comes from his early roles, one of which was playing the frontman and singer of Moody Blues, Justin Hayward. He played a role in two of the band’s music videos.

Ian Gelder played the younger brother of Lord Tywin Lannister in 12 episodes of the HBO series Game of Thrones. This show created a lot of buzz during its telecast.

Talking about his achievements, he won the 2001 Olivier Award for Best Supporting Actor after his portrayal of acting talent in Arthur Miller’s play All My Sons. Similarly, he received the Evening Standard Award for Best Actor for 900 Oneonta in 1994 and then in the M.E.N. He was nominated for Best Actor. Theater Award for Martin Yesterday in 1998.

Daniels revealed his homosexuality at the age of 24 during a performance of Martin Sherman’s Bent. Until then, he had never discussed it with his parents, as they did not have a close relationship.
He was in a relationship with Ian Gelder since 1993 after they met on the set of Entertaining Mr. Sloane.

The news was confirmed by his immediate family, as his partner Ben Daniels shared an Instagram post and wrote, “It is with great sadness and with a heavy heart broken into a million pieces that I make this post to announce his passing.

He further revealed that the late actor was “diagnosed with bile duct cancer in December.”
The stage actor said he recently stopped acting as Gelder’s caregiver, adding, “None of us had any idea it would all happen so quickly.”
Calling Gelder his “absolute rock”, Daniels also said, “He was the kindest, most generous-natured and lovely human being.”
