Farooq Ahmed, the Kathua teacher who beat a Hindu pupil at the Government Higher Secondary School (Bani) for writing Jai Shri Ram, was detained by authorities on Saturday, August 26. Mohammed Hafiz, the school’s principal, is said to still be missing. According to accounts, Ahmed beat a pupil in Class 10 for writing “Jai Shri Ram” on the whiteboard in the classroom, which sparked significant demonstrations against him.

In this case, the principal is also charged. A teenage kid who was the victim is presently receiving medical care. According to the sources, Kuldeep Singh, the victim’s father, filed a complaint at the police station on August 25 accusing Ahmed and Hafiz of beating up his son. In accordance with the pertinent provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act, a FIR was filed at Police Station Bani against the pair as a result of his complaint. A squad led by a local SHO visited the school and arrested the instructor there.

“The principal is evading, and a search is going on to arrest him while further investigation is underway,” a senior police officer stated. A three-person committee was established by Kathua’s deputy commissioner Rakesh Minhas to look into the situation. The committee is made up of the Sub Divisional Magistrate (Bani), the Deputy Chief Education Officer (Kathua), and the Principal of the Government High Secondary School (Kharote).

When he formed the committee, Minhas issued an order that stated: “The committee members are instructed to investigate the case and submit the fact-finding report to this office within two days positively in order to continue forward in the matter. Additionally, the committee is instructed to assign blame for the occurrence to the responsible party.
