Hellbound Season 1 was named Best Horror Series at the 2021 Golden Tomato Awards and acclaimed by viewers and critics worldwide, making it to the Top 10 TV Series list in 93 countries just ten days after its 2021 premiere.

The series focuses on the graphically violent actions of a team of demons, who hunt down sinners who have been previously visited by a celestial being who has informed the victim of the date and time of their death.

Hellbound Season 1 Recap

Hellbound is based on its webtoon of the same name. In a Netflix original release set in the year 2022 (then the future), supernatural beings suddenly appear out of nowhere to condemn people to hell.

Hellbound is set between 2022 and 2027 in South Korea. An otherworldly face named Angel suddenly begins materializing to deliver prophecies called Decrees that condemn certain people to Hell at a specific future time, either seconds or years later. Three gigantic supernatural monsters appear almost at the exact moment to rip apart and incinerate the person’s body in a sort of spectacular show of force called a demonstration. Two conspiring organizations, the New Truth Society cult and the Arrowhead gang group, gain power by playing on people’s fears.

Hellbound Season 2

Of the series’ six episodes, episodes 1 through 3 focus on a detective investigating supernatural phenomena, the president of the New Truth religious order, and a principled lawyer. Except for the lawyer, the main characters change in episodes 4 through 6, which take place 5 years later and focus on a television producer and his wife who have to struggle with the fact that their newborn baby is destined for hell. Although the baby survives to be taken to its parents, who give their lives to protect it, this incident raises questions about whether angels are really sent by the gods.

What will be in Hellbound Season 2?

The Hellbound season 2 trailer confirms an October premiere date, while also revealing a grand resurrection. This unique dystopian universe returns with season 2, set in a world with ongoing decrees and demonstrations destined for hell. Sodo lawyer Min Hyejin (Kim Hyun-joo), The New Truth, and the Arrowheads become further entangled amid the sudden resurrections of The New Truth’s doomed former president Jung Jinsu (Kim Sung-cheol) and Park Jungja (Kim Shin-rok).
