Actress Emmanuelle Debever take her own life
Actress Emmanuelle Debever has taken her own life after allegedly accusing Hollywood star Gerard Depardieu of sexual harassment, according to French media.
Emmanuelle played Louison opposite Depardieu in the 1982 film Danton, later catapulting her into the spotlight after a promising start to her career. French newspaper Liberation reported that the star died at the age of 60.
Emmanuelle Debever accused Denton of harasshment on Facebook
In June 2019, she made the allegations on Facebook and shared a photo of herself with Gerard on the set of Denton, in which she played his younger wife.
“A lot happened during this shoot at Holy Monster…enjoying the privacy inside the camper.”
“He slid his big paw under my skirt to feel better while talking,” she said. “I won’t let that happen to me.”
Depardieu strongly denied the allegations and told the French newspaper Le Figaro that he “never abused any woman.”
She said: “I can no longer consent to what I hear, what I read about myself.” “Finally, I want to tell you my truth. I have never abused any woman. Hurting a woman would be like kicking your mother in the stomach.”
Death of Emmanuelle Debever same day as the documentary about Depardieu’s allegations was broadcasted
Emmanuel is believed to have died on 7 December. The same day, a documentary about Depardieu’s allegations, titled Gérard Depardieu: The Fall of the Ogre, was broadcast on the France 2 television channel.
Other allegations against the 74-year-old man include two cases of rape by another woman in 2018. She claims he assaulted her when she was 22 years old. In December 2020, he was placed under formal investigation, but not sent to jail.
Depardieu has strongly denied the allegations of sexual misconduct and abuse made against him by his former co-stars. In his letter to Le Figaro he said: “All this is affecting me. What is worse, it is destroying me.”
