Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke to Have Another Leading Role Produced by Peacock
Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke is set to join the TV series Ponies, a new spy thriller series. The English actress is known for her portrayal of Daenerys Targaryen in the popular HBO fantasy series, for which she earned four Emmy nominations.
Now, the Game of Thrones star has landed a second role in the TV series Ponies. This is her second starring role in a TV series after Prime Video’s Criminal.
What is Ponies about?
Ponies is set in Moscow, in 1977. Two “PONIES” (“people of no interest” in intelligence jargon) work anonymously as secretaries at the US embassy. That is until their husbands are murdered under mysterious circumstances in the USSR, and the pair become CIA agents. Bea (Emilia Clarke) is a Russian-speaking, overeducated daughter of Soviet immigrants. Her partner, Twila, is a small-town girl who is as aggressive as she is fearless. Together, they work to uncover a vast Cold War conspiracy and solve the mystery that made them widows in the first place. Other executive producers include Alison Mo Massey, Jessica Rhoades and Katherine Bridle.
Emilia Clarke’s other recent television credits include the Marvel-Disney+ series “Secret Invasion.” Clarke’s film credits include “Me Before You,” “Last Christmas,” “The Pod Generation,” “Solo: A Star Wars Story” and “Terminator Genisys.” She made her West End debut in 2022 in Anya Reiss’ adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s “The Seagull.”
