Dwayne Johnson and Dany García’s Seven Bucks, sign a deal with Disney
Seven Bucks Productions, the film and television content label founded by Dany García and Dwayne Johnson, has an agreement with The Walt Disney Company to develop films for cinema and streaming.
Under the deal, Johnson and Garcia will develop films for theatres and streaming platforms, and Johnson could star in the project. The multi-year agreement will also allow Seven Bucks to collaborate across all Disney divisions.
Dwayne Johnson and Disney have worked together before
Johnson and Disney have worked together before, including on the 2021 theme park attraction-inspired Jungle Cruise, which also starred Emily Blunt and two seasons of Behind the Attraction for Disney+. This November, Johnson will return to the voice role of the majestic demigod Maui in Walt Disney Animation’s sequel, Moana 2.
Dwayne Johnson is working on multiple projects
Johnson is currently working on the live-action film and animated sequel to Moana, which Disney surprisingly announced in February.
Moana 2 will see Auli’i Cravalho return as the eponymous character, while Johnson will reprise his role as Maui from the first film. Johnson will appear in the live-action film, but Cravalho will not as Moana, with Australian teen actress Catherine Laga’aia playing the headstrong daughter of a Polynesian chief.
The Moana sequel was initially going to be an animated series, but Disney made the surprise announcement. Following its preview at CinemaCon in April, Moana 2 has generated even more buzz, with its recent trailer breaking Disney’s ratings records, raising hopes that the company can improve its recent box office fortunes. Meanwhile, Johnson recently revealed in a behind-the-scenes video that the live-action Moana sequel will begin production this fall.

This time, Moana embarks on an epic journey to discover if there are people who live beyond Motunui’s shoes.
In doing so, she ventures into the remote seas of Oceania with her friends when she receives an unexpected call from her ancestors. Along the way, her crew finds themselves in dangerous, long-lost waters they’ve never encountered before.
Moana 2 release date
While the announcement of Moana 2 wasn’t all that shocking, the revelation that the film will be released on November 27, 2024, was quite a surprise. Disney has never hesitated to set long timelines for its movies, and movies like the recently confirmed Frozen 3 and Toy Story 5 aren’t expected to arrive until 2026.
Dwayne Johnson doing Now?
Johnson is currently off the field recovering from an elbow injury he suffered while filming the A24 sports drama The Smashing Machine, in which he plays mixed martial arts legend Mark Kerr. Johnson stars in the film alongside his Jungle Cruise co-star and Oscar-nominated actress Emily Blunt, who plays Mark’s then-wife, Dawn Staples.
