Camila Cabello and Lana Del Rey take Coachella set by storm
Camila Cabello was the surprise guest performer for Lana Del Rey’s headlining Coachella set on Friday night.
Del Rey temporarily left the stage after singing her song “Bartender” as Cabello began a surprise performance of her new single “I Luv It” from her upcoming fourth studio album. Lana joined Cabello through a few verses, but mostly she watched and danced from her castle-like stage balcony.
“I love it, I love it, I love it, I love it,” Del Rey sang to Cabello after the pop singer stopped singing. She added, “[Camila] is my girl, I have so much fun with her. I love this song and Angel, thank you so much for coming and singing with me.
Cabello responded, “It’s an honour for me, you’re one of my favourite artists of all time. I love you so much.”
This provided an unexpected moment during Del Rey’s set, with fans hoping Billie Eilish would return following her guest spot last weekend or Taylor Swift would appear following the release of her highly anticipated album ‘The Tortured Poets Department‘.
Camila Cabello’s new single gets off to a disappointing start
Cabello first began teasing the song on March 5, 2024, which was widely compared to British singer Charli XCX’s song “I Got It”. A clip posted to her social media shows the blonde singer singing the chorus. On March 22, American singer Lana Del Rey promoted the song via her Instagram account.
Cabello announced the single and shared the artwork on March 25. Video released on 27 March 2024
Camila Cabello has spent a large part of 2024 teasing the beginning of her next musical era. However, “I Luv It” peaked at number 81 on Billboard’s Hot 100 ranking of the most consumed songs in the country.
After so much media attention and Cabello’s many social media posts, a strong launch was expected. But “I Luv It” was released exclusively during contest week, which may account for its low starting point and its lack of presence in other charts.
