Brad Pitt’s lawyers challenge Angelina Jolie’s abuse claims and non-disclosure agreements
Brad Pitt’s lawyers hit back at Angelina Jolie, hours after she made abuse claims against the actor. The French winery case deepens with each court decision. The latest ruling was disappointing for Jolie but gave Pitt a chance to challenge his ex for not honouring the “first refusal” agreement. A source close to Brad Pitt has dismissed Angelina Jolie’s new claims of past abuse as “misdirection and distraction” amid the ongoing legal dispute over Chateau Miraval.
On April 5, lawyers representing Brad Pitt, 60, filed a motion in court demanding that Angelina Jolie disclose how many gag orders or confidentiality agreements she asks her employees to sign. The demand comes after Jolie and her lawyers previously alleged that Pitt physically attacked Jolie and their children during a flight on the family’s private plane in 2016. The alleged incident was investigated by the FBI and the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services. It was later ruled that Pitt did not abuse children and the FBI declined to bring any criminal charges against the actor. In addition to the allegations of physical abuse, Jolie’s legal team claims Pitt blocked her from selling her shares in the winery unless she signed a non-disclosure agreement (NDA). Now, Brad Pitt’s lawyers filed a motion on Friday asking Jolie to disclose any other nondisclosure agreements she has made with third parties, including her staff.
“If Jolie had put an NDA on the man’s contract that made it a condition of her continued employment with him in relation to what she saw in her home – including their child and her behaviour with Pitt – So it would be extremely unlikely if she actually believed the requested provision, which is a ‘non-consent’ order barring any NDAs between Jolie and any third party, Pitt’s lawyers said in legal documents obtained by Entertainment Weekly.
The documents continued, “To the extent that Jolie requested this third party’s silence about her family or homelife, particularly in a circumstance where there was no business justification, it would speak volumes about whether Jolie actually viewed Pitt’s requested NDA, which was linked to the Miraval business, as the deal-ender she subsequently alleged it to be… Jolie adamantly refuses to produce the many other NDAs that she signed or requested from others during the relevant time period, along with related documents, presumably because she knows they will severely undermine her defences.”
