Director James Mangold on Timothée Chalamet’s portrayal of Bob Dylan
In an interview with Rolling Stone, James Mangold spoke about Chalamet’s performance. “I think he does it in a very poetic way, empathetically suggesting through his performance how one might want to make music, but without having people in your face all the time,” he said.
Revealing that he sometimes addresses the actor as Bob, Mangold praised him for vividly conveying the joy the singer must have felt interacting with his community and making music.
“I think he does an incredible job of growing the character,” he added. According to him, ‘Timmy’ really showed Dylan’s journey from when he was 19 and told stories about his work at the carnival to become a singing sensation.
“Timmy finds the path that will take us there… in my opinion, the way he develops Bob’s Character is a true act of acting brilliance,” the director added.
