IC 814: The Kandahar Hijacking – Based on a True Story
Netflix has released the official trailer for its upcoming miniseries titled IC 814: The Kandahar Hijacking. Based on a true incident, the suspense drama explores the gripping story of India’s longest plane hijacking, which took place in 1999.
The drama, adapted from the book “Flight Into Fear” by Captain Devi Sharan and Srinjoy Chowdhury, explores the crisis from multiple angles and offers a multifaceted look at the incident, showcasing the tense negotiations in the Delhi War Room, the high-stakes diplomacy in Taliban-controlled Kandahar, and the ordeal faced by the passengers and crew on board the hijacked plane.
IC 814 Synopsis
In the trailer, Vijay Varma can be seen playing a pilot, Captain Devi Sharan of IC 814, while Pankaj Kapur plays the role of Minister (MEA) Vijaybhan Singh. Naseeruddin Shah as Vinay Kaul, Cabinet Secretary and CMG Chief, has joined the series.
Also, Dia Mirza takes the buzz to a higher level in the role of journalist Shalini Chandra. Patralekhaa plays an air hostess named Indrani, while Pooja Gor plays Vijay Varma’s wife, who is waiting for her husband to return with the lives trapped in the plane. Kumud Mishra, Arvind Swamy and Manoj Pahwa add intensity to the upcoming hijacking drama in the roles of R&AW officer Ranjan Mishra, MEA secretary and IB official respectively.
With punchy dialogues, the trailer manages to leave a mark and delves deeper into the theme of geopolitics.
Real Facts: An Indian aircraft IC 814 was hijacked on its way from Nepal to New Delhi in 1999 by a group of five masked Pakistani militants, who were members of Harkat-ul-Mujahideen (HuM). They ordered the flight to be taken to multiple locations and finally to Kandahar, then controlled by the Taliban. The film will showcase the endless seven days of December 1999 and the struggle of 176 lives abducted at 30,000 feet. The upcoming film IC 814 is directed by Anubhav Sinha, known for Article 17, Bheed, Mulk and Thappad. Sanjay Routray and Sarita Patil are the producers.
