Chappell Roan Says She Doesn’t Care About His Music’s Chart Success
Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, popularly known as Chappell Roan, is riding high thanks to the recent success of her music. On August 19, in a new Interview with Magazine conversation with Saturday Night Live star Bowen Yang, she shared that even with her new name, she doesn’t care about the charts or being on the radio.
Chappell Roan Was Shocked by the Popularity After His Song Topped the Charts
“In the past, honestly, eight weeks, my whole life has changed,” Roan told Yang. “It’s been very emotional because I don’t just sing pop music, it’s automatically political because I’m gay.”
Yang shared some advice with the singer, who told the comedian that she appreciated her orientation as she doesn’t know anyone “who’s going through this” and added that being recognized has been the biggest change. “I’ve never given a shit about the charts or being on the radio, but it’s crazy how people in the industry take me more seriously than they used to. I’m like, ‘I’ve been doing this all along, bitch,’” she boldly noted.
“A chart hit is so fleeting,” she added. “Everybody drops out of the charts. I’m just like, ‘This is giving valedictorian.'”
Roan Ablum
Roan’s 2023 album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess is currently at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, while her latest single Good Luck, Babe! recently reached No. 6 on the Hot 100 Songs chart.
Additionally, the singer’s songs Hot to Go!, Pink Pony Club, Red Wine Supernova, Casual, Femininomenon, and My Kink Is Karma have all appeared on the Hot 100 in recent weeks.
Roan further noted that success on the giant charts does not define her career graph in any way but it acts as a form of momentum for her. She also reflected on how much her career has changed in recent months, with Roan admitting in the interview that she did not expect it to become so big.
Roan Considers Music Above Movies for Now
Chappell Roan said, “The industry is legitimately so scary and out of my control,” she continued. “I can release music whenever I want. I don’t have to wait for a casting director to say, ‘It would be great if we cast you and then we’ll decide your schedule for the next three months.’”
Chappell Roan is turning down acting offers for now, but she is not ruling out Hollywood for good. For starters, she said a potential acting job “would have to be very specific and very silly. Maybe I would do a cameo.”
“I’ve been trained to act, but it’s the most stressful thing in the world for me,” she added. “I would rather be arrested, because I know how to handle myself in jail… Yeah. It would really have to be the right thing to do and the right time.”
