Ariana Madix’s Brother Jeremy Madix Arrested Over Scheme To Transport 100 Pounds Of Marijuana.
Six months ago, Jeremy Madix, the brother of Vanderpump Rules star Ariana Madix, was arrested after allegedly attempting to bring more than 100 pounds of cannabis with him on a flight to Germany.
According to an arrest warrant obtained by PEOPLE, Jeremy Madix was at Orlando International Airport bound for Frankfurt with a friend named Jonah Ahad around 8 p.m. local time on February 16, 2024, when a U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent stopped them.
The customs agent reportedly examined their three suitcases, including two large black Tumi suitcases and one black Briggs & Riley suitcase, and the alleged suitcases contained “a large amount of green leafy substance in vacuum-sealed bags in all of the suitcases,” with the warrant adding that the plants tested “presumptive positive” for cannabis (commonly also called marijuana).
PEOPLE claimed that an Orlando Police Department detective took custody of the suitcases and alleged that the bags with Jeremy’s name on the labels contained 64 vacuum-sealed bags of approximately 76 pounds of cannabis and that the bag with Ahad’s name on the label contained 31 bags of cannabis weighing approximately 37 pounds.
Ahad was eventually booked in May and Jeremy was eventually arrested at his home in Oceanside, California, on July 10 and extradited to Florida. Also read – Rosa Doherty, mother of the late Shannen Doherty, will fulfil her daughter’s wishes by taking over her podcast
Jeremy Madix’s lawyer requests his release
A court document filed Wednesday showed that the bartender was still being held in jail at the time without bail, and his lawyers were requesting his release. It’s unclear if that has happened yet.
The Bravo star has been charged with marijuana trafficking, which under Florida law carries a possible sentence of up to 30 years in prison and a $200,000 fine.
Jeremy Madix’s lawyers submitted in the lawsuit several letters from close family members and friends pleading for their client’s “good character.” Jeremy and Ariana’s mother, Tanya Madix, for example, praised her “wonderful loving son” in her note, adding that he is a “kind” person who always looks out for her.
“Jeremy has developed a wide circle of very good friends and a network of acquaintances who support him,” she added. “He is well-liked and respected by his peers. I am very proud of my son’s accomplishments.”
Notably missing was a letter from Jeremy’s famous sister, who was invited to the White House last year after her cheating scandal with ex-Tom Sandoval gained widespread media attention.
