Kaitlyn Dever faces hate from fans on the set of The Last of Us and needed extra security, co-star Isabela Merced said
The Madame Web star and Kaitlyn Dever are among the newcomers to the cast of Season 2 of the hit HBO series, which is based on the video game of the same name. The other additions to the cast led by Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal include Ariela Barer, Danny Ramirez, Catherine O’Hara, Jeffrey Wright, Young Mazino, Tati Gabrielle and Spencer Lord.
The second season of HBO’s live-action The Last of Us series, where Kaitlyn Dever takes on the role of Abby Anderson, an antagonist to Joel and Ellie who has been hated since the release of The Last of Us 2.
Unfortunately for Kaitlyn Dever, some people take this hate to a level that raised concerns on set, as revealed by her castmate Isabela Merced, who said that her co-star needed extra security on set due to people who “really hate” her character. Speaking to Variety’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, Merced said: “There are so many weird people in this world because there are people who really hate Abby, who is not a real person. Kaitlyn Dever had to be extra protected by security when it came to the filming of this.”
“Katilyn is a cool person who is not intimidated by things, she really has her head in the right place and she is also going through a lot right now personally,” continued Merced, who joined the cast as Dina, a love interest for Ramsey’s character Ellie, referring to the death of Kaitlyn Dever’s mother in January after a battle with breast cancer.
In 2020, Kaitlyn Dever wrote on Instagram about her mother “who has been battling stage 4 metastatic breast cancer for 10 years.” The star shared that her mother, Kathy, was diagnosed at age 39 and that “every day since then has been a scary battle.”
The Unbelievable actress said that her mother was “the strongest woman I know and every day I am grateful to the doctors who have taken such good care of her over the years.”
How many episodes will there be in The Last of Us season 2?

“The story material that we got from Part II of the game is a lot more than the story material that was in the first game, so part of what we had to do early on was figure out how to tell that story over the seasons,” Mazin said. “When you do that, you look for natural breaking points, and as we laid it out, this season, the natural breaking point felt like it came after seven episodes.”
The creators realize that fans may be concerned about the shorter season length, but they allayed those concerns. They want each episode to “feel like its own blockbuster.” One of the episodes in season two will have a remarkably long runtime.
