Selena Gomez once again denies speculation that she has gone through any cosmetic surgery.
Selena Gomez, 32, who has repeatedly denied plastic surgery rumours over the years, was active on TikTok on Saturday, July 27 and interacted with a 2023 video in which content creator Marissa Barrionuevo was asked to share what work Gomez had done. Barrionuevo is a medical assistant at a plastic surgery office and has a series where she shares side-by-side photos of celebrities before and after they receive cosmetic treatment.
In a video of her, the content creator shared images of Selena Gomez but she declined to make any comment on whether Gomez had gone through any cosmetic procedure or not, citing Gomez’s health issues with lupus as one of the reasons that can lead to major changes in a person’s appearance.
On Saturday, Gomez took to the comments to further express her frustration, saying, “I honestly hate this. I was wearing stripes for a breakout. I got Botox. That’s all. Leave me alone.”
Marissa Barrionuevo apologized to Gomez
In response, Barrionuevo used Selena Gomez’s comment to create a new video and apologize for any upset her original post may have caused. “I adore you,” Barrionuevo said, “I truly have the best intentions so I apologize if this upset you in any way.”
She also captioned the video, “While I always try to lead with grace and mindfulness, I’m sorry this upset you (and I understand why it did). I decided to stop making videos like this last year because of the negative impact it can cause. It was never my intention.”
“I love you,” Gomez commented. “This is not about you. Sometimes I get sad.” Also read – Lady Gaga confirms engagement to Michael Polansky at 2024 Olympics
Selena Gomez’s Health Issues
Selena Gomez has opened up about her health struggles over the years. In 2019, during an episode of the “Giving Back Generation” podcast, she revealed that her health issues often cause her weight to fluctuate. “I have lupus, high blood pressure and kidney issues, so I have a lot of health issues, and for me, that’s when I started noticing the body image thing more,” she said at the time.
The singer was diagnosed with lupus, an autoimmune disease she treated with chemotherapy, in 2014 and underwent a kidney transplant three years later. Following her diagnosis and transplant, Gomez took a step back from the entertainment industry in 2018.
“Honestly, I just kind of stepped away. I’m enjoying my life. I don’t think about anything that causes me stress anymore, which is nice,” Gomez told Good Morning America at the time. “I don’t even live in Los Angeles anymore.”
Gomez reflected on how her career affected her perception
In an interview with Women’s Wear Daily late last year, Gomez reflected on how her career affected her perception of herself and what it means to be beautiful. “I think my version of beauty was affected a little bit because I’ve been working since I was seven years old and I’ve always worn makeup,” she told the outlet in December 2023.
“But I feel like I’m happy whenever I can put makeup on now. And I can feel positive about the experience.”
