Emmanuel Macron awarded Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honor, The highest accolade bestowed by the French government
In a historic ceremony, French President Emmanuel Macron awarded Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honor on Thursday (local time). The highest accolade bestowed by the French government or military is this one.
PM Modi is now the first Indian PM to get this honor as a result. On behalf of the Indian people, Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked French President Macron for this award. At the Elysee Palace, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi was received by Macron for a private supper, the award ceremony was held.
The highest honor bestowed by France, the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honor, was given to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 13, 2023 by President of the French Republic, His Excellency Mr. Emmanuel Macron. The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to President Macron for this special honor. In the statement, the Ministry of External Affairs added, “On behalf of the people of India.
“A warm gesture reflecting the spirit of the India-France partnership,” tweeted Arindam Bagchi, the official spokeswoman for the Ministry of External Affairs. Along with President Emmanuel Macron, Prime Minister Narendra Modi received the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honor, France’s highest honor.
The Grand Cross of the Legion of Honor has already been awarded to a limited group of illustrious individuals from all over the world.
Among them are Nelson Mandela, the former president of South Africa, King Charles, the Prince of Wales, Angela Merkel, the former chancellor of Germany, and Boutros Boutros-Ghali, the former secretary general of the United Nations.
This honor given by France is another in the series of top international awards and honors given to PM Modi by different countries.

Thursday (local time) saw PM Narendra Modi invited by French President Emmanuel Macron for a private dinner at the Elysee Palace, his official home in Paris. Emmanuel Macron, the president of France, and Brigitte Macron, the first lady of France, greeted PM Modi.
A formal greeting was given to the Prime Minister as he arrived in Paris on Thursday on a two-day official visit. Elisabeth Borne, the French prime minister, met him at the airport.
