A race to stop a shadowy artificial intelligence waging a bloody war against humanity is revealed in the first trailer for Terminator Zero, Netflix’s reboot of the Terminator franchise, released Monday.
The upcoming sci-fi action anime series Terminator Zero will be part of the Terminator universe but will focus on characters we don’t know yet.
Terminator Zero Plot
2022: A future war has been waged for decades between the few human survivors and an endless army of machines. 1997: The AI known as Skynet became self-aware and began its war against humanity.
Trapped between the future and this past, there is a soldier sent to the past to change the destiny of humanity.
She arrives in 1997 to protect a scientist named Malcolm Lee who is working to launch a new artificial intelligence system designed to compete with Skynet’s imminent attack on humanity. As Malcolm navigates the moral complexities of creating him, he is pursued by a relentless assassin from the future, who forever alters the fate of his three children. Cast behind Terminator Zero
The upcoming anime series will be executive produced by Skydance, Japanese animation studio Production I.G. and Netflix Animation under the direction of Masashi Kudō. The series was developed by Mattson Tomlin.
*Terminator voiced by Timothy Olyphant.
*Eiko voiced by Sonoya Mizuno: A resistance soldier sent from the year 2022 to protect Malcolm and his children from the Terminator and prevent Kokoro from being launched.
*Malcolm Lee voiced by Andre Holland, is a scientist who develops an AI that competes with Skynet.
*Kokoro voiced by Rosario Dawson, an AI developed by Malcolm Lee, who is Japan’s answer to Skynet.
*The Prophet voiced by Ann Dowd, the spiritual and philosophical leader of the Resistance.
“I was looking at the franchise and the first two movies in particular,” Tomlin tells Tudum. “And why are we still talking about this franchise 40 years later? What do you have left if you take away the killer robots and the Day of Judgment? You have stories about families.”
Tomlin said in 2021 that he was honoured that Skydance and Netflix have given him the opportunity to make Terminator that breaks conventions, expectations, Subverts and has real guts

In Terminator 2: Judgment Day, the highest-grossing film of 1991 led by Arnold Schwarzenegger, it is revealed that August 29, 1997, is the date on which the artificial intelligence network known as Skynet becomes aware of itself and usurps his human masters, causing an all-out war between humanity and the machines. So, The Terminator Zero, the eight-episode anime series coming to Netflix on August 29, 2024.
