John Cena will announce his retirement as a WWE Superstar after Wrestlemania 2025

After more than 23 years, John Cena is preparing to enter the ring for the last time.

During a surprise appearance at Money in the Bank on Saturday in Toronto, Canada, the 16-time world champion wrestler announced that he will be retiring from WWE after WrestleMania 2025, which Cena said was the “perfect” place to make the announcement.

In recent years, Cena has displayed a towel that says “Never give up.” This time he said, “The last time is now,” referring to his entrance song, “The Time Is Now.”

Cena also wore a t-shirt that said “The Last Time Is Now Tour” and “John Cena Farewell.”

Cena said that he would compete in next year’s Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber and WrestleMania, which will be his final events. Chants of “Thank you Cena” echoed through the crowd afterwards.

“Thank you for letting me play in the house you built for so many years,” Cena told the crowd.

John Cena’s Career as a Pro Wrestler

John Felix Anthony Cena popularly known as John Cena was born on 23rd April 1977 in West Newbury, Massachusetts. John was interested in the world of wrestling from a young age( Cena idolized Hulk Hogan), he even created championship belts out of cardboard for himself and his brothers. However, due to his weak physic, he was bullied in school and sometimes ended up being beaten up, these incidents caused him to ask his parents to buy him some weights.

In 1999 Cena graduated with a degree in exercise physiology and body movement after which he entered the world of bodybuilding for some time. In 1988 he moved to California to begin his journey as a pro wrestler at Ultimate Pro Wrestling’s Ultimate University.


John Cena’s first character was a semi-robotic one known as The Prototype. His unofficial debut for WWE was on 10th October 2000, against Mikey Richardson which he lost. He received another tryout on 9th January 2001 where he defeated Aaron Aguilera. In the same year, Cena signed a developmental contract with WWF and was assigned to OVW (Ohio Valley Wrestling) during this time he continued to wrestle as The Prototype and soon he became the OVW Heavyweight Championship for 2 months. Cena became part of OVW’s class 2002 alongside Randy Orton, Brock Lesnar and Dave Bautista and became the “OVW 4”. John Cena appeared under his real name Cena in Smackdown when Kurt Angle proposed an open challenge but Cena lost the match, however, he put up a good show and was praised by The Undertaker, Billy Kidman, Rikishi and Faarooq.

Despite a good start Cena failed to resonate with the crowd, soon he released that WWE was planning to release him. According to Wrestling Observer Newsletter Stephanie Mcmahon heard John rapping off-screen, she praised him and told him to involve the rap in his on-screen performance and asked her father Vice McMahon to give Cena another chance.

This was the time when the famous “Doctor Of Thugonomics” was born which later became one of the most famous Gimmick of all time.

Now Cena can resonate with the audience with his rapping-style, charismatic Personality and in-ring acumen. After that Cena won his first WWE Championship after Defeating JBL in WrestleMania 21.

As time pass Cena slowly goes on to became the 16 time World Champion and one of the most decorated superstar of All time.

He is well respected among his fellows wrestler for his work ethic and commitment for the company  as he said  – “Never Give Up”
