Katy Perry Became Emotional during American Idol Final Season
After Abi Carter ensured her victory during the season finale of American Idol on Sunday, May 19, the 39-year-old Katy Perry visibly upset and started crying.
Perry, whose idol career is now over, was upset when Carter performed Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?”
Carter was competing against Will Moseley and Jack Blocker, who finished second and third respectively.
Perry joined Idol in 2018 as a judge alongside Bryan, 47, and Richie, 74, for the show’s revival on ABC after its original 15-season run on Fox.
Katy Perry announced her exit from the show after seven seasons on Jimmy Kimmel Live! earlier this year. At the time, she teased that she had more projects in the works, including a new music project coming in late 2024.
Perry confirmed, “I think this will probably be my last show, my last season for Idol.” “I mean I like idols.”
“It’s connected me to the heart of America, but I feel like I need to go out and feel that beat in my heart, what I m saying, Jimmy?” she added, winking at host Jimmy Kimmel.
In an interview with Taste of Country Nights, Bryan said that Perry’s exit was not a surprise. The country singer said, “I’d heard whispers that she was thinking about it – it wasn’t a big shock.”
Brian continued, “It’s been a great experience with Katy, and she and I get along great well and we’ll work alongside her. I mean, I was there before her daughter was born, and now her daughter [ 3 years old].” Katy Perry and her fiancé Orlando Bloom have a daughter Daisy Dove, whom they welcomed in August 2020.
For his part, Richie recently told famous Celebrity Outlet (People) about him, Perrie and Bryan, “We’ve grown a little family and what’s happening now is that we keep talking about her leaving, but It is “not yet registered.”
He added, “So I think as it progresses, Luke and I will probably get together and realize that we’re going to kidnap her.”
