Jennifer Aniston is making a reboot of the comedy-drama ‘9 to 5’

The 1980 satirical comedy-drama film 9 to 5 is getting a modern “reimagining,” multiple reports have confirmed. The modern reboot is to be produced by Hollywood star Jennifer Aniston and her Echo Films partner Kristin Hahn. The project is backed by 20th Century Studios, with the script written by Oscar-winning Juno writer Diablo Cody.

‘9 to 5’ sequel canceled

The iconic 1980 film starring Lily Tomlin, Dolly Parton and Jane Fonda. Fonda confirmed that a 9 to 5 sequel was in the works in 2018, with her, Tomlin, and Parton set to reprise their original roles.

News of a possible sequel came when Patricia Resnick and Rashida Jones joined the project as writers. However, the following year, Parton told Entertainment Tonight that women had “given up on the whole idea.”

“I don’t think we’re going to make a sequel,” he said at the time. “We were never able to find a script that was too different from the first one, and it turned out great.”

The film is about a new employee, Judy Burnley (Fonda), who meets her supervisor, Violet Newsted (Tomlin), on her first day. Violet introduces Judy to department executive Franklin Hart, Jr. (Coleman), who immediately reveals himself to be arrogant and sexist. Two women, joined by the secretary of Franklin Hart -Doralee Rhodes, discover that they hold a grudge against their boss and get an unexpected opportunity for revenge. The story of the film moves from one humiliating situation to another.
