Breaking Bad Actor Anna Gunn said that People now see her character in a new light
Audiences are starting to see Skyler White, played by Anna Gunn on the hit AMC series “Breaking Bad,” in a new light, thanks to the “seismic” cultural changes that have occurred during the show’s more than decade-long run.
Breaking Bad may have ended in 2013, but it is still considered one of the best TV dramas ever. If you were watching the show when it was coming out, you’d know that there was a lot of abuse aimed at Anna Gunn’s Skyler White, who spent much of the show just going up against protagonist Walt.
Gunn, who won two Emmy Awards for her role as Skyler, the wife of Bryan Cranston’s Walter White, spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the misogyny her character faced from most of the show’s fans. Gunn explains:
“Now, when people come up to me, it’s incredibly different… There’s still a long way to go, but we’ve made big changes since then… So people come up to me now and say ‘You were the soul’ of the show, you were the one who brought me to the show or they say, ‘The first time I saw it, I didn’t like the character, but the second time I saw it, I loved it. Liked it.’ Oh my God, that poor woman.’
The funny thing is that the opposite can also be said for Walt. Although on the first viewing, everyone actively supported him despite his despicable actions, fans said that on the second viewing, they became more frustrated with Walt as he constantly puts himself in harm’s way to get deeper into the game.
