The horror franchise’s fifth and latest film, “Ghostbusters Frozen Empire,” has brought in $4.7 million at the box office in Thursday previews.
The new film from Sony and Columbia Pictures, which reunites the original stars of the ’80s classic and the cast of the 2021 “Afterlife” sequel, is set to open to between $43 million and $45 million at the box office this weekend. The launch follows the previous film that revived the franchise, “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” which grossed $45 million amid the pandemic. “GhostBuster Frozen Empire” will need to outperform its previous part to make a profit due to its $100 million price tag (“Ghostbuster Afterlife” cost only $75 million to make).
Thursday’s box office earnings for “Frozen Empire” are slightly higher than “Afterlife,” which made $4.5 million in previews in 2021. At the end of its run, “Afterlife” grossed $129.3 million in North America and $204 million worldwide.
