Guru Purnima is an important day for Hindus. In this day students express their gratitude to their guru or teacher. It is the day which meant to remind students that a guru or a teacher is always necessary to guide you, the person can be anyone irrespectively of age, gender or background if you learn something from them they are your gurus.
Why it is name Guru Purnima?
Guru Purnima is made of up two term Guru mean teacher and Purnima mean full moon – According to Hindu guru purnima is celebrate in Ashadha month on a full moon day that why it is called Guru Purnima.
Whose Birth is celebrate as Guru Purnima?
There are three story :-
1) According to one of the ancient Purana ,Guru Purnima is the day the first guru was born. In the yogic culture, Shiva is not seen as a god, he is seen as the Adiyogi, or the first yogi. Guru Purnima is that full moon day when the first yogi transformed himself into the Adi Guru – the first guru.
This is the time of the year, when over 15,000 years ago, his attention fell upon the now celebrated Saptarishis – his first seven disciples. They had done some simple preparation for 84 years.
Then, when the solstice had shifted from the summer solstice to the winter – that is, when the Sun’s run with relation to this planet shifted from the northern run to the southern run, which in this tradition is known as Uttarayana and Dakshinayana – on that day, Adiyogi looked at the Saptarishis and saw that they had become shining receptacles of knowing.
He could not ignore them anymore. He observed them closely and when the next full moon rose, he decided to become a guru. That full moon day is known as Guru Purnima. (source –isha.sadhguru.org)
2) According to another the ancient writing it is the day when the great sage and son of Parashar was born. According to ancient scripture he was born with divine powers and was aware of all the Kaal’s ( Time Period ) namely Bhoot Kaal (Past), Vartaman kaal (Present) and Bhiavishya Kaal (Future)
The day when bhuddha give his first teaching on this day at Sarnath, Uttar Pradesh, India.
What people do on Guru Purnima?
On this day people mostly students
a) Take bath early morning
b) Touch their mother and father feet for blessing as they are the 1st gurus or teachers
c) Go to Mandir or Temple especially Shiv temple and Ganesh temple because Shiva is consider 1st Guru.
d) At school they should touch their teach feet and get their blessing.
why is Guru Purnima is important?
It is celebrate to show the beautiful bonding of teacher and students. The importance role teacher play in our lives that help to overcome the difficult problem. A good teacher who understand his/her students and help them to move forward in life is consider equal to god for their students.
If you don’t respect a person you will not learn anything form that person, so respect should always their between student and teacher.
