PM Modi lists benefits for farmers in terms of fertilizer subsidy, food grain procurement and PM KISAN Yojana scheme
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday talked about the benefits being given to the farmers by his government. PM Modi said that the government is providing ₹50,000 annual benefit to each farmer by allocating ₹6.5 lakh crore to the agriculture sector. He insisted that it was not just a promise but a “Modi’s guarantee”. PM Modi listed the benefits for farmers in terms of fertilizer subsidy, food grain procurement and PM KISAN Yojana.
“The government is making sure that every farmer in the country gets around ₹50,000 in some way or the other every year. This means that under the BJP government at the Centre, it is guaranteed that every farmer gets ₹50,000 in various forms Will see you, he said while addressing the 17th Indian Cooperative Congress here.
The Prime Minister said, “This is Modi’s guarantee. And I am telling what I have done, not the promises.”
“The government is spending an average of over Rs 6.5 lakh crore annually on agriculture and farmers,” Modi said.
During the last nine years, Prime Minister Modi emphasized that the government has taken measures to ensure availability of fertilizers at more affordable rates as compared to other countries. Additionally, substantial quantities of food grains have been procured at the minimum support price (MSP), and significant quantities have been deposited directly into farmers’ bank accounts through the PM-Kisan scheme, thereby bypassing middlemen.
₹2.5 lakh crore has been transferred to farmers
Explaining the matter in more detail, the Prime Minister informed that an impressive amount of ₹2.5 lakh crore has been directly transferred to the bank accounts of farmers through the PM-KISAN scheme in the last four years. Under this scheme, farmers get an annual amount of ₹6,000 as financial assistance.
Modi said, “You can get an idea of how big this amount is from the fact that the total agriculture budget for the five years before 2014 was less than Rs 90,000 crore.”
Protected farmers from global uncertainties
Prime Minister Modi emphasized that the government has taken proactive steps to protect farmers from the consequences of the rise in global fertilizer prices. He emphasized that this “Modi Guarantee” has been implemented by the central government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Modi further pointed out that the government’s efforts are benefiting farmers, as they are able to buy a 45 kg bag of urea for around ₹270, which is much lower than the prices in other countries. For example, the same quantity of urea costs ₹720 in Bangladesh, ₹800 in Pakistan, ₹2,100 in China and more than ₹3,000 in the United States.
