On Friday, two of the Selena Gomez, 31 Rare Beauty founder’s former castmates shared a joint Instagram photo of the TV family spending time with each other — and everything is exactly as it seems!
Former cast members David Henry and David DeLuise posted a joint photo of the cast spending time together, hinting at a return to Waverly Place. The caption read, “The Russos (heart and stick emoji) are coming back #wizardsofwaverlyplace @wizardspod.”
The Disney Channel series ran from 2007 to 2012 and followed a family of magicians with Gomez playing teenage Alex Russo alongside brothers Justin Russo (Henrie, 34) and Max Russo (Jake T. Austin). DeLuise, 52, was the head of the clan, while María Canales-Barrera was cast as the mortal wife and mother, Theresa Russo. The upcoming sequel, co-produced by Selena Gomez and Henry, was officially announced by Deadline on January 18. Henry, who will be a series regular, shared the news on Instagram, promising fans a return to Waverly Place in 2024.
The sequel’s official synopsis reveals that the story focuses on a mysterious incident in Wiztech, where an adult Justin Russo has given up his magical powers for a normal human life. However, a powerful young wizard in need of training arrives, inspiring Justin to embrace his past for the future of the wizarding world.
