After escaping and shedding a few lonely tears on the concrete stairs outside Leslie hotel suite, Gerry feels like he’ll have a clean moment by reappearing at Leslie’s doorstep. After confirming that Theresa is his final choice, the conversation does not go well. She is devastated.

Leslie cries, “So everything you told me last night was a lie.”

“At the time, that was the truth. Things have changed; things have evolved,” Gerry replies.

There are more Kleenex tears and sobs. It is a painful and sad farewell.

During the “After the Final Rose” meeting between the two, Leslie remembers her devastation after seeing Gerry move on.

Leslie says, “I picked out a dress, blue like your eyes. I wrote my vows. It was the happiest day of my life, except the day I thought he was coming.”

At the hotel, Gerry faints and cries in the supportive arms of host Jesse Palmer. He finally utters the line we’ve all seen time and time again in countless promos that actors may deliver at future film auditions: “I think the only time I felt bad in my entire life was when my wife passed away,” said Gerry.
