Equalizer 3: Robert McCall (Denzel Washington), a retired government assassin haunted by terrible acts committed in the name of his country, continues to deliver justice on the streets to help the persecuted.
Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) returns to exact even more bloody vengeance on several worthy bad guys. This time, for some tenuous reason that doesn’t become clear until the end of the film, he finds himself in Italy. Specifically, a small town on the coast of Sicily is filled with smiling, perfectly decent townspeople as well as a gang of firebomb-happy Mafia thugs.
Earnings of Previous Parts
While the previous entries in the trilogy had delivered almost identical results domestically and worldwide, the margin of bragging rights was much smaller for The Equalizer 3. Released in 2014, The Equalizer ended its run with $101 million domestically and grossed $192 million worldwide. Four years later, The Equalizer 2 grossed $102 million domestically and $191 million worldwide.
Based on the 1980s television series, each film in the trilogy is directed by Antoine Fuqua and stars Denzel Washington in the lead role of an ex-Marine vigilante. With only Mexico left to open this week, The Equalizer 3 has now either been played or is currently being played in every major region of the world. The film’s biggest foreign market is the UK. ($9 million), Australia ($6 million), Spain ($4.7 million), the Netherlands ($2.9 million), and Italy ($1.9 million).
