Himanta Biswa Sarma attack on Congress – allegedly showed a distorted map of India, without the entire northeastern region.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday slammed the Congress, alleging that they showed their indifference towards the Northeast and the people of it while mocking Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his latest social media post.
A video shared by the Congress on its official X account, formerly Twitter, allegedly showed a distorted map of India, without the entire northeastern region.
Responding to the post, Sarma alleged that from the clip, it seemed that the Congress had already exchanged the northeast with a “foreign country”.
Taking a screenshot of the Congress post, Mr. Sarma posted on Has Rahul gone abroad? Or has the party given membership? to Sharjeel Imam (a former student activist jailed under UAP(A) sections)?
Also, speaking to ANI on Saturday, Sarma asked people across the country to take note of the Congress bill and give them a befitting reply in next year’s Lok Sabha elections.
“I saw that tweet. I felt like the Congress had handed over our beloved northeastern region to China. They released a map of India from which the entire northeastern region had been cut off. This is a deliberate anti-national act. The people of the Northeast and the entire country should take note of this and give them a befitting reply (in the Lok Sabha elections next year),” the Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma told ANI.
The controversial post was, in a way, Congress’s version of a famous scene from the Bollywood film ‘Deewar’.
The scene featured Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor, the two main leads of the film, in a heated exchange, with the latter finally saying, ‘Mere paas maa hai’ (Mother is with me).
The Congress shared an animated video of that scene from ‘Deewar’, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi played as Amitabh Bachchan and Rahul Gandhi as Shashi Kapoor.
In the video, Prime Minister Modi could be heard saying, “I have ED, police, power, money, friends… what do you have?”
To this, Rahul Gandhi replies, “The entire country is with me.”
