G20 summit updates : Replicas of the wheel and sculptures of dancing women at the Konark Sun Temple in Odisha welcomed world leaders and foreign delegates to the G20 Leaders’ Summit at the Bharat Mandapam International Exhibition and Convention Center in New Delhi on Saturday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi received world leaders arriving for the G20 summit.
Modi shook hands with World Bank President Ajay Banga, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and other delegates who arrived to discuss the two-day contentious global issues in the Indian capital.
What is the wheel of Konark Sun Temple in Odisha?
The Konark Wheel was built during the 13th century during the reign of King Narasimhadeva I. The 24-spoke wheel has also been adapted to the national flag of India and embodies India’s ancient wisdom, advanced civilization and architectural excellence.
The rotating motion of the Konark wheel symbolizes time, Kalachakra, progress, and constant change. It serves as a powerful symbol of the wheel of democracy and reflects the resilience of democratic ideals and commitment to progress in society.
The first session of the G20 Summit will begin around 10:30 a.m. under this year’s theme “One Earth.” This global meeting, which is the culmination of various ministries, meetings and participation of different groups throughout the year, aims to address key issues around the world.
Full schedule for the G20 Summit 2023:
Day 1 (September 9)
9.30 AM to 10:30 AM: The event will start with the arrival of leaders and heads of delegations at the summit venue, Bharat Mandapam. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with world leaders, will pose for photographs with the Tree of Life foyer. The leaders will then meet at the leader’s lounge in the Bharat Mandapam.
Between 10:30 am and 1:30 pm, the first session will be held under the theme “One Earth” at the Summit Hall at Bharat Mandapam, followed by a working lunch.
Between 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm: Various bilateral meetings will be held.
From 3:30 to 4:45 pm: The second session will be held under the title “One Family”. After the conclusion of this session, the leaders return to their hotels.
Between 7 p.m. At 8:00 p.m., leaders and heads of delegation will attend the dinner, which begins with a welcome photo op upon arrival.
8pm-9pm: Leaders will engage in conversation over dinner.
9 PM to 9:45 PM: The leaders and heads of delegation will then meet at the Leaders’ Lounge at Bharat Mandapam and return to their hotels.
Day 2 (September 10)
8:15 a.m. to 9 a.m.: Leaders and heads of delegations will arrive in Rajghat in individual processions.
9:00 AM to 9:20 AM: Leaders will then lay a wreath on the samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi. Plus a live performance of Mahatma Gandhi’s favorite devotional songs.
9:20 AM: Leaders and heads of delegation will then move to the Leaders’ Lounge at Bharat Mandapam.
9:40 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.: Arrival of leaders and heads of delegations at Bharat Mandapam
10:15am – 10:30am: Tree planting ceremony at South Plaza in Bharat Mandapam
10:30 am – 12:30 pm: The summit’s third session, themed “One Future”, will be held at the summit venue, followed by the adoption of the New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration.
US President Joe Biden, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida are among the key leaders who will attend the event in the country’s capital today and tomorrow.
Notably, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin will not attend this weekend’s summit. However, China will be represented at the summit by Chinese Premier Li Qiang, and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will represent Russia.
