Zika Virus second patient is a 15-year-old girl from the eastern Mumbai suburbs of Kurla, which falls under the jurisdiction of the civic body’s L district, according to a BMC statement.
A second case of the Zika virus has been found in Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said on Tuesday. The first case was reported on August 23.
The second patient is a 15-year-old girl from the eastern Mumbai suburbs of Kurla, which falls under the jurisdiction of the civic body’s L district, according to a BMC statement.
The girl, who had other comorbidities, had been complaining of fever and headache since Aug. 20 and was receiving treatment at a private hospital, the statement said. She was transferred to a government hospital on Tuesday where her condition is stable, the corporation said.
The Zika virus is transmitted primarily by Aedes mosquitoes. Infection during pregnancy can cause certain birth defects in the child. There is no vaccine or medicine for Zika, which causes symptoms such as fever, rash, headache, joint pain, red eyes and muscle pain.
On August 23, the BMC stated that the first case of Zika had been reported in the city after a 79-year-old man from Chembur contracted the viral infection. He made a full recovery, BMC said.
