50 Cent sues ex Daphne Joy for defamation
50 Cent has filed a defamation lawsuit against his ex-girlfriend Daphne Joy, more than a month after she publicly accused him of rape and physical abuse in an Instagram post.
The rapper, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, filed the lawsuit in Texas on Monday, May 6, claiming his ex-wife’s “false allegations” have subjected the star to “widespread public ridicule, hatred and contempt.” and that her post was “a purposeful effort to tarnish her reputation and prevent him from seeing his 11-year-old son, Sire.”
50 Cent’s attorney, Reena Jain of Blank Rome, said that “despite being given ample opportunity to withdraw her false and malicious counter-allegation, Ms Narvaez shamefully tried to tarnish the image of the loving father in front of his 11-year-old son by falsely calling him Rapist. Jain said, “The motivation behind this appears to be Ms Narvaez’s unfortunate delusions and misguided loyalty to Mr. Combs, whom we believe authorized this attack and about whom Mr. Jackson has spoken for many years.”
An Instagram post by Joey, whose real name is Daphne Narvaez, on March 28. In the post, Narvaez, 37, wrote that she and Sire moved to New York to be closer to Jackson, but the rapper, 48, only saw their son 10 times in two years.
“I am tired of maintaining and protecting for my son an image that you never earned. “Let us focus our attention on your true evil actions like raping me and physically abusing me,” she wrote.
According to 50 Cent’s filing, Narvaez shared her post the same day it was reported that Jackson was seeking custody of their son following a March lawsuit in which Narvaez was labelled as a “sex worker” (Producer Rodney Lil Rod filed a lawsuit against Sean (Diddy) Combs.)
Jackson’s filing states that he and his attorneys gave Narvaez “numerous opportunities” to correct or retract his statements, and when she did not do so, he took action in order to “vindicate his rights and protect his reputation.”
He is seeking monetary damages over $1 million, as he claims he was “bombarded with horrible online comments” and that Narvaez made her statements “solely out of hatred and ill will toward Jackson.”
